DIY Striped Dress – McCalls 6553

Pattern: McCalls 6553 | Fabric: Ziggity Matellasse Doubleknit | Shoes: Shoe Dazzle (sold out)

Jewelry: NY & Company | Watch: The Peach Box

Can I just say I am in L-O-V-E with this dress? And just to toot my own horn, I wore this dress to a business function and turned quite a few admiring heads. *toot toot*

I’ve had this pattern in my stash for quite some time now and finally found the perfect fabric for it. It’s an easy project and I did not make any fitting adjustments to it at all. I love when I don’t have to do that.

I don’t have any complaints about this pattern. It came together very quickly. If you’d like to save a bit of fabric, you can do a turn and hem or bias binding instead of the facings. But, I made it as directed.

On the pattern envelope, the hem falls lower on the model. But, I did not want it to be that long, so I did not make any of my normal length adjustments to accommodate my height.

I love this fabric, my goodness! It’s the same fabric from my Gorgeous Fabrics Haul. It cut and sews beautifully. I actually made this dress a month ago and she’s been sitting on my dress form in my sewing studio. I love seeing this dress when I walk in my studio! Even after I wore her, I put her back on the dressform!

My watch is from Peach Box. I have been eyeballing their watches for-EVER. I love the clean, classic, minimalist look. They finally had a sale, so I snagged two watches. Each watch comes with an extra band so it’s like you get two watches for one!

I think a bright color or patterned fabric would be a great POP to this pattern. Not only is this fabric full of bright, beautiful color, but it has texture in it as well. Check out my haul video to see it up close and personal.

My shoes are an old purchase from Shoe Dazzle. I think these are my tallest platforms. I don’t wear them that often, but they are pretty comfortable. I can dance and twirl and not have my feet crying out to the heavens. Win!

My accessories are all from New York & Company. They had a recent store-wide sale and I pretty much bought half of their entire accessories collection. My accessories were in desperate need on updating so I’m glad I caught this sale.

I hope that you’re inspired to add prints and texture  and a pop of color into your sewing!

Until next time!
