DIY Striped Gathered Skirt

Gathered Skirt with Pockets
A couple of weeks ago, I made this simple, easy to do, gathered skirt. I didn’t use a pattern for this skirt. It’s literally a rectangle and a waistband. As you can see, I added pockets and there is an invisible zipper in the back.

The fabric of choice is this striped stretch cotton. This fabric is easy to cut and sew. I liked the slight stretch in this fabric and plan on making more fitted garments out of my leftovers. The stripes remind me of Beetlejuice, so I want to make some pants with it. Hehehe.

To spice up black and white, I added my pearl chain combo I got from Kohls (on sale, woot!). I chose my red Steve Madden Proto pumps I shared in my shoe haul post.

I liked the idea of this skirt, but I’m not in love with the fit. I think it could be more snug around the waistline. Since it’s a stretch cotton, I think it could have worked well. With the bulk of the gathering and the slightly oversized waistband, I think it added too much bulk around my midsection.

That’s all for today! Be blessed!

PS – Say goodbye to that beautiful tree. We lost it last week in a storm. WAAAAAH!

Let me know what you think of this post!

  • Ah yes, the blessings! I’ve seen a full butt adjustment” where we can slash and spread across the butt to give ourselves a little more room on the back pieces. And then you can true up the hemline and be ok. I haven’t actually done it because I don’t make many full skirts like this

  • It is a very cute skirt! I see what you mean about the waistband it makes the front dip down. I also usually have to make my skirts longer in the back to keep the skirt hem level (it raises up in the back because of my blessings.)

  • I like it! I love full skirts but can’t wear them because with my belly it would look like a circus tent. I can’t wear nice shoes like that either. How do you walk in them? Don’t they kill your feet? Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetl……
